Speaking to the Entrepreneurs
In October the Major of Mitaka Metropolitan City will speak to the chamber on the role the city has taken to create, support and expand the role of entrepreneurs in their city. Mitaka city was first recognized in 2005 as a Metropolitan City IT innovator when the City was awarded the Global city award as the most engaged city in that year promoting IT within the city gov't; earlier year award winners were for example Singapore, Vancouver, etc.. Since then among the many engaging activities of the city are: establish a tri-pillar business creation scheme (pilot office-- work space with telephone and postal mail box service; SOHO office -- 15-20 small offices with meeting rooms, shared receptionist; fully contained office space) and the establishment of a business college where business plan contests are yearly awarded, and business plans and patent courses, etc., are taught. There are now over 200 small companies that are part of this city endeavor.
The presentation by the Major will somewhat expand on these services, and mention some of the success and failures that have occurred over the years, as well as their learning process along the way which has led to in the last 5 years having 20+ companies being successfully established that are now well on their way to be sustainable.
For those who of you who are planning and for those who are now recently engaged in the start of a business in Japan, this is a MUST hear, that is if you wish to get a head-start and at lease avoid some of the pitfalls in starting a business.
